Leap of Faith

Photograph by Nicole Cambria

A migrating wildebeest leaps into the low waters of the Mara River in Tanzania. Wildebeests begin their annual migration at the edge of the Serengeti Plains. On their enormous loop following seasonal rains, the more than 1.5 million animals encounter deadly crossings like this one at the Mara, infamous home of the giant Nile crocodile.

"SHE" CELEBRATING WOMEN

Z-NEWS

Himba, NamibiaHimba, Namibia

I’m both really proud and privileged to introduce you to SHE, a collection of truly extraordinary photographs showing the unique dignity, strength and grace of African women, captured on film by our talented colleague, Nicole Cambre, Rezidor’s Vice President, Legal.

Africa is very dear to me – personally and professionally. Sub Saharan Africa is one of the most vibrant, rapidly growing economic areas in the world. And Carlson Rezidor is very present throughout the continent. We now top the latest Africa Development report, both in terms of number of hotels and rooms under development - so I am fortunate enough to travel there often.

Africa was the place where I recently went through a life changing experience, as I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for charity earlier this year. It gave me an incredible opportunity to meet some of the most remarkable people, who taught me how to face adversity and use it as a fuel for passion.

Africa, for me stands for the powerful spirit of Ubuntu – I am because we are – a belief that we can succeed only by recognising the humanity of the others.

At Carlson Rezidor, we express Ubuntu through our care for our local communities and projects like our contribution to reforestation in Kenya, and global support to World Childhood Foundation (www.childhood.org). Childhood, founded by Queen Silvia of Sweden, is an important organisation committed to protecting the most vulnerable children and young mothers around the world.

I hope Nicole’s haunting and joyous images - and the spirit of SHE - will touch your heart as it’s touched mine and everyone at Rezidor. I thank everyone who has bought this book in support of World Childhood Foundation.
